History
Writing for The Black Crown began during January 2010.The band made various announcements upon their preparing for their third full-length in-between touring to which lead to its recording in 2011 in Big Bear, California with Steve Evetts as the selected producer. 2011 also had the band confirming that its title would be The Black Crown at various performances at concerts the group attended. Working titles before settling on naming the album The Black Crown were initially self-titling it off of songs that were recorded for it such as "Cancerous Skies", "Human Violence" and "Fuck Everything". Lucker revealed that The Black Crown will be Suicide Silence's final release from longtime label Century Media Records and noted that the band will be "free agents" after its release.Metal radio station Liquid Metal aired the single "Human Violence" as a worldwide premiere from The Black Crown for promotion of the album on Friday, May 13. The week ending for that day also held multiple airs.[11] The track listing for the album was unveiled on June 6, 2011, naming that famous vocalists such as Jonathan Davis and Frank Mullen would make appearances on the record. The single "Slaves to Substance" was made available for purchase via Amazon MP3 on June 28, 2011.
The songs "You Only Live Once" and "Slaves to Substance" became available for download purchase on the video game Rock Band 3 on June 30, 2011 with the option of purchasing the songs with or without the double bass drumming charted when playing on the drums instrument.
The Black Crown sold over 14,400 copies during the first week of its release in the US alone, leading to its debut at position number 28 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Lyrical themes
Vocalist, Mitch Lucker revealed that the controversial anti-religious lyrics that were included on Suicide Silence's previous albums would not be included on The Black Crown. When asked by Kerrang!, Lucker revealed that the album's lyrical themes would feature more of the personal topics that No Time to Bleed had in-concept. Lucker explained: "I'm not trying to put people's beliefs down - it's about me and my life. This is my head cracked open and poured on the paper! I still have the same beliefs and same views, but I'm more open to everything," he adds. "At this point in my life, I don't see the good in making people hate you for something you say. This record is for everybody."Cover artwork
The cover for The Black Crown was designed by Ken "K3N" Adams, who designs the artwork for Lamb of God albums as well as many other artists such as Coheed and Cambria and 88 Fingers Louie.Reception

Metal Underground stated "What really makes 'The Black Crown' a worthy listen and elevates it above the dime-a-dozen dreck of today’s deathcore" coupled with the statement "All the familiar elements that make this band are present in spades."
Diminuendo gave much praise to the album, giving the album a rating in amplifier attenuation of 8 out of 11. The held the statement; "Coarse with rapid fret board shred, Suicide Silence does not fail to bewilder fans with mind-blowing disharmony you'll always remember, and pinch harmonics you wish you could forget. The Black Crown demonstrates that deathcore does possess musical merit."
